Gem Works Edelsteine GmbH
We are a recently founded company located in Vienna, Austria. Our aim is to offer high quality faceted gem stones to our customers. Hereby it is not only continuous improvement of the cutting process we strive for, but also we are constantly adapting and building optimized tools.
By high quality we understand to work with high grade rough and optimizing the cut in several ways. At first is the right cutting design and the scaling of the facet angles optimizing the optical behaviour for the respective material. During the cutting process the geometry of the cut, the flatness of the facets, and the surface quality are key. Altogether leads to the desired wow-effect when observing the finished gem.
In order to minimize the risk of an improper cut we use 3D computer simulation renderings upfront to get an idea how the cut performs. These simulations we also offer to share if you asked us for a custom cut.
The extension and improvement of our workshop is an ongoing topic to enhance quality and efficiency, and create new processing technolgies.
Workshop
In our workshop in Vienna (4th district) we use high precision faceting machines (self-built [⇒ Video], UltraTec) as well as a high quality grinding machine, a polishing machine and a CNC controlled machine for custom and designer cuts.
In addition we have a basic gemological equipment for stone analysis and determination of properties (microscope, refractometer, polariscope etc.) as well as a collection of relevant technical literature.
